THE URBAN CHIEFS Release Fourth Studio Album

‘Grains of Truth’ in January 2017

After a long wait since the Chiefs previous release ‘Rise Above’ in 2014, fans can expect 10 thumping tracks of Psyche Blues Stoner Rock goodness with new release Grains of Truth!

The album was recorded at Music Feeds Studio in St Peters with engineer Chris Hancock, the process started back in May 2015 with Bake and Glendon laying down five tracks. The intention was to finish writing the record and have it recorded mixed and mastered in time for an early 2016 release. Things didn’t go to plan and as Blake put it “if it doesn’t feel right or ready it isn’t.”

After an inspiring show at a local Tamworth venue ‘The Loft’ in September 2015 the guys captured and wrote some new material for the pending new album. After workshopping the new material, they returned to Music Feeds in the May of 2016 to finalise the recording.

Early October saw them team up with engineer Russell Pilling at Damien Gerard Studios in Balmain where they had previously mixed ‘City of Light’ and ‘Rise Above’ with him. The guys were excited to collaborate with Rusty again on what is to be their best album to date.

It takes a fair chunk of money to independently release an album so Blake and Glendon called upon their loyal fan base to help cover some of the costs involved. They used the crowdfunding platform Pozible and were not only able to reach their target of $7000 but smash it by achieving $8220 in pledges from their friends and fans!

Because they got over their target the guys were able to give back to the artist community by using various professional photographs and paintings in the album artwork. They were also able to hire the keen eye of a young local graphic designer to make this new album look as good as it sounds. They have also put the extra dollars into making their live show a bit better by purchasing some well needed new lighting.

The Urban Chiefs are a Psyche - Blues - Stoner - Rock band from NSW. Blake Saban (Guitars & Vox) and Glendon Finlay (Drumcussion) have been changing people's perspective of what a ‘band’ should look and sound like since 2009. The pairs huge sound is due to Blakes’ unique set up of playing his array of custom guitars through two guitar amps, a bass amp and an acoustic DI signal. Combine this with his powerhouse gravelly vocal stylings and Glendons’ tribal and at times frantic, percussive drum style and you have an Australian two piece like no other. There is so much happening on stage that often people are mistaken in thinking that the guys are using samples or pre-recorded material but everything you hear is being produced by the Chiefs as it happens!

“...a cracking slab of Psyche-Blues!”
